Glenbard North Bulletin

The North Current Student Newspaper: Have you ever wanted to see your work published? If so, the North Current, Glenbard North’s student newspaper, is the place for you! Join us for our next meeting on Wednesday, October 2 after school in Room 2235. We are always looking for writers, photographers, and artists. No experience is necessary and all students are welcome. It’s never too late to join. See Ms. Buck-Castaneda or Ms. Pierce for more information.

Library: While you celebrate Homecoming festivities, come down to the library to also celebrate your freedom to read. This week we partake in Banned Books Week where we highlight books that have been banned and removed from libraries and schools around our country and the world. To help celebrate, come down to the library and grab a button – or make your own! Take a peek at our displays to learn why titles such as Green Eggs and Ham, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Hate U Give have all been on the banned book list!

The Write Place: Feeling spooky, GBN? Have a good scary story that will terrify your friends? Spooky season is upon us and to start the season off right, The Write Place is once again holding a contest for the best two sentence terrifier. Your two sentences can be about anything from Urban Legends to your own creative horror. The winning terrifier will receive a gift card and a special spooky gift from The Write Place! Submit your terrifier by scanning the QR code on our promo signs hanging on any bulletin board around the school or the sign outside The Write Place. Let’s get spooky, GBN!

Deans’ Office: Because we care about your academic success at Glenbard North we want to remind you that daily attendance to school is important along with arriving at school on time. When you’re not here, we notice because we care and we want you to be successful. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to graduate and find good jobs. In fact, a high school graduate makes, on average, $1 million more than a dropout over a lifetime. Attend Today. Achieve Tomorrow. Attendance Counts.

Health Office: Food is energy. The food we eat is broken down by our bodies and turned into energy to fuel our bodies. This is why the old saying – “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is correct! Scientific studies have proven that hunger can lead to lower test scores, attention problems, behavior problems, emotional, and academic problems. So to prevent these issues – eat a healthy breakfast! A combination of carbohydrates, for a quick acting source of energy, and protein, for a long acting source of energy is the best combination for success. Have an apple with peanut butter, an egg and toast, yogurt and fruit, or some leftovers from the night before. Eating breakfast regularly is also proven to help with weight management. So don’t skip the most important meal of the day, have a healthy breakfast each day to do your best and feel your best!

Athletic Boosters: Letterman Jackets are back. We will have a Herff – Jones Rep available during all lunch periods on October 2nd to assist with sizing questions and orders. Order today, to get your jacket before the winter holiday season at https://tinyurl.com/y2gndpe

Theatre: Direct from the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction files comes Lanie Robertson’s The Insanity of Mary Girard, a dramatic re-creation of the real-life story of a Philadelphia woman who spent the last 25 years of her life in a mental institution. In 1790, when Mrs. Stephen Girard becomes pregnant by another man, her husband has her declared legally insane. Now, Mary sits in a chair as the “Furies” dance around and impersonate people from her past, present, and future. By the end of this haunting and highly theatrical piece, she has grown rather convincingly into her diagnosis. The Insanity of Mary Girard is an indictment of men’s treatment of women and society’s treatment of the mentally ill. Performances are October 2nd, 3rd, and 5th at 7:30 p.m. in the Livingston Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door and online at www.glenbardnorthhs.seatyourself.biz. Please note: Seating is general admission for this show.
