Winter Food Drive: Each year the Carol Stream community organizes a winter food drive called Christmas Sharing. The food drive helps those in need. Starting next Monday and ending Friday, December 11th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items like canned soup, peanut butter and jelly, pasta, and pancake mix. Donations can be dropped off in your 2nd period class or the cafeteria. Thank you for your support of those in need.
National Art Honor Society: Stay warm and look cool with this year’s sassy hoodie designed by National Art Honor Society members. See Mrs. Mac in the art wing to place your order.
Health Office: Millions of young adults are living with a mental or substance use disorder. Of the 8.9 million young adults who reported having a mental illness in 2018, 40% went untreated. Of the 5.1 million young adults with a substance use disorder, 90% did not get treatment. It is important to remember that asking for help is a normal part of life, and you should never feel like you have to take on the world alone. SAMHSA.gov
The Nurses office wants to say THANK YOU to the North Current writers and artists for the 2 amazing articles about vaping! If you have started vaping and want to quit – try these resources. Download the quitSTART app or text QUIT to 47848 OR Text QUIT to 202-899-7550. See your nurses if you need more resources or if you have any other health questions.
SADD: You or someone you care about likely suffers from a mental health issue. Because mental health is so important, and because so many suffer in silence, SADD is sponsoring Mental Health Awareness Week starting on November 18 and ending November 22. To prepare for this important week, SADD will be selling Mental Health Awareness t-shirts starting Wednesday, November 13th. They will be long sleeve, cost $8 and have a very important message to let our classmates, friends, students, and loved ones that they are not alone. We ask that everyone who purchases one wear it on Friday, November 22. Let’s send a message that we care. Let’s end the stigma!
Coat Drive: Fall is here, and the weather is getting colder. Unfortunately, there are many students at Glenbard North who do not have winter coats or the money to afford them. If you have winter coats that you and your family members are no longer using, please consider donating them to help our fellow Panthers. We are looking for used coats that are clean and in good condition. You can bring any donations to Rebecca Nielsen in the Main Office or to Jennifer Buck-Castaneda in 2235 or 2236. Donations will be distributed to any GN students or staff in need.
