Information Regarding Glenbard North Incident and Mask Mandate

Parents and Guardians:

It is important that we maintain a positive school culture based on mutual respect for each other. You may have seen, or heard of, a video regarding a Glenbard North student and staff member.

Please know that this situation is being investigated. I ask that you trust that we will handle this situation in an appropriate manner.

I also want to take a moment to thank everyone for great cooperation in following our mask requirement.

It is important for you to know that the mask mandate was signed by the Governor, and is a requirement for every school in Illinois. Prior to the start of the school year the Illinois Superintendent of Schools sent a letter to all schools stating that compliance with the mask mandate is not optional. The letter also stated that schools not following the mask mandate would become unrecognizable by the Illinois State Board of Education meaning that students could lose out on scholarship money, not be able to compete in IHSA athletic programs, and colleges could penalize students for not having an accredited high school diploma.

Glenbard North High School, as well as all other high schools in Illinois are following the mask mandate to keep staff, students and communities safe, to reduce transmission of COVID, to reduce the number of students who would need to be quarantined for close contact and to provide athletic and extracurricular opportunities for our students.

Please know that we will continue to follow this mandate and appreciate the cooperation from all staff, students and visitors.

Thank you.

John Mensik
Principal, Glenbard North
