Theatre: Theatre has something to offer everyone, regardless of skill level–whether you want to act on stage or help backstage. Find out how to get involved by coming to the THEATRE INTEREST MEETING (Thursday, February 20th) right after school at 2:45 p.m. to meet others interested. The meeting will start at 2:45 with the details of the program. Bring a friend! Bring two! If you cannot attend, but still want to participate, please pick up an info packet and audition information in front of the theatre!

Those interested in auditioning for the musical must sign up for specific singing audition time in front of the theatre office. However, you are expected to be there the entirety of the audition day you’ve signed up for.

The Northern Lights are in the sky and love is in the frosty air in Almost, Maine, a place that’s so far north it’s almost not in the United States. One winter night as the aurora borealis hovers in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers in this delightful midwinter night’s dream. Ticket sales for Almost, Maine are now available for purchase at the box office by the cafeteria. Performances are February 13th, 14th, and 15th at 7:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre. Social Studies: Attention Seniors: Applications are now being accepted for the Social Studies Scholarship. This scholarship is for GBN seniors who have appreciated and excelled in the study of Social Studies. Applications can be obtained through your Social Studies teacher and is located in the Social Studies office. Completed applications are due back to Mr. Coon in the Social Studies office by 2:30 on Monday, March 9th.

Friendship Bracelets: Show your friends how much you care and celebrate Live Life Well Week by purchasing a friendship bracelet in the cafeteria between February 18-21. Friendship bracelets cost $1 and will be delivered to recipients. All proceeds go to the ELL Scholarship.

Health Office: February Dental Health Month – Dental hygiene is important to your overall health. Brushing 2x a day with fluoride toothpaste, having dental exams every 6 months, and avoiding sugary drinks and smoking/vaping are all positive ways to keep your teeth healthy, your breath smelling good, and protect your heart. See your nurse if you need a list of low cost dental providers.

The Quad: Happy Valentines Week from the Quad!! This week to celebrate Valentine’s Day we are offering free Cookies and Hot Chocolate for every visitor who comes to the Quad (room 1410)!! Did you know the Quad now offers tutoring in Math and Science!! Come to the Quad any day this week Monday – Friday (Feb. 10-14) Find warmth and encouragement and let your love for math and science grow!!

Music: Valentine’s Day is approaching and love is in the air! And what better way to show your admiration than to send a Singing Valentine to that special someone in your life. The GN Choirs will be taking orders for Singing Valentines on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during all lunch periods. The cost is only $2.00 to have your loved one serenaded for Valentine’s Day. Singing Valentines will be delivered during periods 1, 2, 3, and 8 on Friday, Feb. 14. Sign up in the cafeteria during your lunch hour and show someone you care! You may request a specific class period when you place your order.

Link Crew: Attention Link Crew Leaders and A-Team: Don’t forget to turn in your field trip forms to the School Counseling Office by 2:30 today! We look forward to seeing you at our Pancake Awards Breakfast on Wednesday at 7:15am!

Girls Badminton: Girls Badminton Tryouts are just a few weeks away! If you have been wanting to get involved, now is your time to begin preparing. Meet us today (February 10th) after PLC for conditioning. We will begin at 3 and will be done by 3:45. We will also have an open gym Thursday (February 13th) from 6-8pm.
Badminton is a great sport if you want to stay in shape between Fall and Winter sports. Come meet new people, get a workout in, learn something new and be around a great group of people! There is no experience necessary so bring a friend and join us! We hope to see you there!

Girls Softball: Attention girls softball. Any girls interested in trying out for softball this spring should attend a meeting on Wednesday, February 19th at 2:35 in room 2108. Again any girl interested in trying out should attend a brief meeting after school on Wednesday, February 19th in room 2108. If you can’t make it see coach Sanew in room 2108.

Girls Track and Field: The girls track season is underway. It’s not too late to be a part of the team. Bring your gold card to the dance studio at 2:50 and join the team. If you have any questions see Coach Bonner in room 2121.

Girls Gymnastics: Congrats to the girls gymnastics team for qualifying as a team to advance forward to the IHSA Sectional meet. Placing second overall in the regional the girls had notable finishes by Sarah Ozeki, Katie Wagner and Brooklyn Mcquillan. Be sure to come out to the sectional meet tonight at 6 PM at Glenbard South. Good luck panthers!

BSA: Good morning Panthers!!! It is time for our Black History Trivia question for the week. We had one winner from last week. The inventor of automatic doors on the elevator is Alexander Miles.

Boys Volleyball: Reminder- for all boys interested in playing volleyball this Spring you are to meet in the Weight room tomorrow (Tues.) @ 4pm. for testing. See Coach DeBenedetti for any questions.

Open Gym 2/12. There will be an open gym for volleyball for anyone interested this Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM

Wrestling: Congratulations to the WRESTLING PROGRAM for their IHSA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP this past Saturday at Lake Park High School–this is the program’s 19th Regional crown in the past 20 years. By winning the Regional, the team moves on to the Dual Team State Series. The top three individuals from each weight class will wrestle this weekend at the IHSA Individual Sectional Championships.

Speech Team: The Speech Team took 4th place at the IHSA Regional Tournament on Saturday. Congratulations to Duc Cao placing 5th in Informative Speaking, Rohan Rughani placing 5th in Original Comedy, and Fahad Imran placing 5th in Original Oratory. Congratulations to Sectional qualifiers: Anthony Hanna taking 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking, Aelia and Mariam Rizvi taking 2nd in Humorous Duet Acting, Arsima Araya, Regional Champion in Oratorical Declamation, Arielle Capel, Regional Champion in Poetry, and Steven James taking 2nd in Radio Speaking. Great job to all and good luck at Sectionals this Saturday!

Green Panthers: Good morning Panthers, you can donate plastic bread tags by finding a green panther carrying a milk jug or donating the tags in room 2-228. The bread tags raise money to buy wheelchairs for children in need. Challenge yourself to bring one tag to help a child. The drive runs from Feb. 10th – March 2nd.

Athletic Office: The Spring Athletic season is just around the corner and any student interested in participating should stop by the athletic office before or after school or during their lunch period to pick up a new Gold Card. You must have an up to date physical on file to be eligible for spring athletics. If you have any questions please stop the athletic office and see Ms. Hengesh.

School Counseling: SENIORS: Have you taken a look at the local scholarships being offered? If not please take a minute to review them in the Schoology Group–Local Scholarships. This is a great way to earn some much needed money towards college. If you have any questions feel free to come to the School Counseling office.

Application deadlines are approaching in early February and many are by March 1, 2020.
